We are happy to open the Ohole Preschool for children from disadvantaged circumstances in Okahandja, Namibia in 2019 for the 9th time.
This video provides an insight into the Ohole Preschool and the ministry of Ohole Ambassadors. The video shows still the old schoolhouse. We could move in June 2014 into a new schoolhouse.
Founded in late 2010, the Ohole pre-school opened its doors to a group of children in Okahandja/Namibia fort he first time on 10 February 2011.
For parents with low-wages in Namibia, pre-school is a barely affordable luxury. In Okahandja, over 70% of the population are included in this low-income tier of society. For most of them, it is very difficult and often impossible to afford a pre-school education for their children. The children then have no basis for entry into higher education.
Unfortunately, the teachers in Namibia prefer to enrol children who have visited a pre-school class and have already learned basic previous knowledge, like English or numbers and letters. For this reason, the opportunity for children without pre-school education to be accepted in primary school is significantly reduced and restricts their right to free education.
The Ohole pre-school enables children whose parents cannot afford the cost to attend this important preparatory year for school. The Ohole staff members specifically look for and pinpoint the children of unemployed parents who are then enrolled in the pre-school year and paid for fully by one of the sponsors.
Vision
In addition to health and a sustainable social network, the key to living, success, acquiring skills and developing personal potentials is chiefly a good education. Our vision is that every child can be given the opportunity of education as a basis for having a meaningful existence.
Goal
Our goal is to provide education for materially disadvantaged children; we want to offer free pre-primary education for underprivileged children.
Educational orientation
- To provide a secure, caring and loving environment to ensure that each child is perceived as a unique person.
- To recognize various talents and take into account the inpidual learning behaviour and the various stages of development.
- To promote the children`s development through physical, social, emotional and moral stimulation.
- To focus on inpidual support in small groups to foster the development of self-worth and the joy of learning.
- Creative and playful lessons, which develop the children in a holistic way. In addition, the children are learning basic information about hygiene and singing as well as a meal together are also part of the schoolday.
The new schoolhouse
On Monday, 02 June 2014, the Ohole Preschool could move into its new school building. We are very happy, that all of you made this possible for the children of the Ohole Preschool. Thank you very much for all donations!
The preschoolers leave the old building of the Ohole Preschool and walk to the new building. There was great joy at the new school building.
